A short film highlighting one of our home-made Halloween props. "Flinger" is a decorative flat which has an opening door and frightening prop that comes whooshing out to scare unsuspecting trick-or-treaters. It is composed out of a simple flat made out of plywood with a hole cut into the center for the motorized door and prop attachments. The door is made out of black painted cardboard and a wooden frame to keep it lightweight, and is attached to the flat by a series of hinges. The door is operated via pushbutton by a powerful windshield wiper motor which pushes the door open, and pulls it closed by an arm linkage mechanism. A circuit detects when the door is fully open and triggers a relay, providing power to an additional windshield wiper motor mounted near the top of the door opening. This motor has a rod connected to it to which a spooky decoration hangs off of. When the motor is triggered the decoration shoots out the door and remains suspended outside of the structure to frighten passers-by. The circuit then triggers the motors in reverse, retracting the decoration and slamming the door shut. The entire thing is powered from a simple 12 volt power supply.
thats awesometini
with a bit better timing you could make it come out as the door is opening

@Overnightfuture Unfortunately the way the current circuit works, that isn't even a remote possibility! The second motor won't fire until the door has completely opened, and that is purely for safety and circuit design reasons. If both motors worked in tandem, it is a definite possibility that the decoration could hit the opening door on the way out, or get crushed by the door as it closes. The way that it works now simply eliminates the possibility of failures and problems to come.
