  • I hate to break it to you, but Jan Svankmajer is the major inspiration behind Burton's claymation.

  • You don't know what you are talking about, fool!

Nothing against Burton, but this man does this for more than forty years! And Burton, Terry Gilliam and many others have much to thank him for!

  • One of my favorites

  • I saw the american premier of this film. Svankmajer was there! I met him! I'm very proud of that.

  • @StacyIsWatchingYou It's an American perspective -- Americans tend to think the most important attribute to define good art is "originality" -- which is esteemed as one component among others, in other artistic cultures, but not any more than recognizing one's place in a line of tradition and adding to it, increasing the wealth but not laying solo claim to it. That word "derivative" is the worst insult a critic can give you in American criticism. So stupid and self-absorbed culturally.

  • and this crazy country got the world cup bid for 2018?!?!?! WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK!!

  • @Manusturbo IS A SURREALIST GENIUS. IS. he's making his latest film. :)

  • @big0fat0banana

Everything is theft in one form or another. It's when conveying the same message on and on, that we see, and we still know it

  • I am not the professional on the subject... but I have come to the belief that Burton was actually inspired by Ray Harryhausen when it came to stop motion; ever since he was a child. I think the surrealist view on the stop motion technique came from Svankmajer. But Harryhausen might have been the sole inspiration for Burton.

And I find it humorous how nobody understands that an original idea is guaranteed to be "stolen" or adapted to one's own view on another subject.

  • This is a great film!

  • This is a great film, definitely recommended!

  • You know the funny thing about faust was the first time I watched it I hated/did not understand it and put in on my shelf for about a year. A person can change so much in just one year as I came back to faust early one morning after a long night and watched old faustus again and again and again, I mean it got better every time i watched it. I love who I am becoming. Great conversing with another Svankmyster fan take care zathusura.
