I was wondering when it first aired if it had any connection to the original transformers at all. There were a couple of episodes that hinted at a link to it but it wasn't until The Agenda that it was indeed the descendants of the Autobots and Decepticons that werre fighting.

@sabrestryke1 The writers and producers themselves weren't sure when they first started, which is why there were initially two moons - if it turned out to be Earth, they'd destroy one of the moons. It was at least partially dependent on Hasbro giving the okay.

@zander1116 This is from Beast Wars. The storyline of Beast Wars involves time travel, back to the time when the original 1984 Ark-crash Transformers are still offline. There is both Optimus Prime and Optimus Primal. They're not the same "person" though.

This is Beast Wars Megatron "killing" G1 Optimus Prime, while Beast Wars Optimus Primal desperately rushes to stop him.

and wait,all the maximus?(is that right?) got electrified because of the explosion...but what about megatron...he was close to the cause of the explosion but he didnt got electrified? pshhhh...

@carlopunkz It's not electricity or a huge explosion, it's a temporal storm. As BW Megatron says, killing Optimus Prime alters history, including the outcome of the Autobot/Decepticon wars, and the existence of the Maximals themselves. Reality itself is coming undone, due to the temporal paradox it presents.

BW Megatron is just theatrical. He likes a good prop, a good prophecy, and a good soliloquy.

@QuickSilver121581 The Transformers took on smaller, more energy-efficient forms some time in the future, during the "Great Upgrade" from Autobot/Decepticon to Maximal/Predacon.

This is tied with Star Trek TNG Best of Both Worlds: Part One's cliffhanger as the greatest cliffhangers of all time, in my opinion.

BW Megatron almost succeed of what his ancestor, the original Megatron have been trying to do for a very long time to destroy Optimus Prime. Fortunely, the plan was a complete failure.

Also, it's technically Predacons. They're just back in time as part of an elaborate plan made by the original (Decepticon) Megatron.
