In the XIX Century the Chilean Army was trained and equiped by Prussia and then Germany (up until 1945). There is still a heavy influence of German traditions and equipment in the Chilean Army. You will see pickelhaube helmets, M42 helmets (in vulkanized fiber), and even Leopard battle tanks in parades and ceremonies.

German inmigrants started arriving in Chile in 1846. Germany, and Prussia in particular, was admired in Chile for its organisation and productivity; for the rest of the century, these new immigrants set up farms, small businesses, and schools so self-contained and successful that some pupils were still being taught in German in 1974. More ominously for the future, Prussian military advisers were also hired by the Chilean army. The Prussian traditions of military self-importance and involvement in politics would be thoroughly absorbed.

  • grettings from europe

  • So anyone can tell me why Chile looks so German?

  • @Mopedkev36 This has nothing to do with 'nazis'. It's military tradition.

  • @Mopedkev36 Some say he escaped to Argentina or Peru, as a plane took off right in front of US soldiers' eyes on a street in Berlin, it's never known who was in it or where it was going loool :P

  • ¡Viva Chile y Arriba España!

  • Wtf!!!!

    Thats new nazis ?!"!!

    I can't believe my eyes

    Anywhere hitler isn't here:-D

  • Well, I believe Nazis are bad, but surely the Prussinisation of an army ain't, as the Prussian/German army in those times when it supplied this to Chile was probably in the top 3 armies of the world, the first, of course, was Russia, due that it was a huge giant when mobilised, second was, I find it, Montenegro, even though they were extreemelly small, they were a huge giant concerning the army's quality, third was Prussia.. This is for 1878.

  • unsere alten Traditionen leben in Chile weiter...
