i think she might be the best singer of this song besides whitney
-
@musicexpo But I don't think that Whitney is much better. If you respected my opinion, you'd accept that. I think she sings this way better than anyone else who's covered this song.
-
@floydmatt987 I respect your opinion, but you need to be realistic. If Dolly is your favorite, you still can admit that Whitney is much better. For example, my favorite actress is bette Midler, but Meryl Streep is much better. I'M BEING REALISTIC. I understand how special Dolly is. I love her too. However, Whitney is the queen of song. Vocally, she's a power-house. If Dolly and Whitney sang together, we wouldn't be able to hear Dolly. Dolly is more talented in many fields, but not song.

@musicexpo See, this is the thing that bothers me about Whitney fans. You guys can't seem to respect other people's opinions. If you prefer Whitney, fine, and I respect that, but please respect my opinion too. It's not like I even dislike Whitney at all. Some of her songs are okay, but Dolly is my all time fave. She is the queen of country, and probably the most prolific female singer-songwriter ever, regardless of genre.

Come on now.. Don't run around in circles.
You and i know Whitney will eat Dolly alive with her voice. Whitney has been given the title "THE VOICE" and "THE QUEEN OF LIVE".
Whitney does not write her songs. She's just a straight up vocalist who has been given the gift from god. She's also known to sustain a note for loner than 13 seconds. She also holds the title for most awarded female artist. Of course she's going to humiliate dolly and her squeaky voice.
No offense!

@musicexpo The version sung in "The Gilmore Girls" was inspired by Dolly's. There have been others too, eg Linda Ronstadt's. Dolly also never said those things.
-
@floydmatt987 Listen, you can't even find one cover of "I Will Always Love You" for Dolly's version. You can only find the covers of Whitney's version.
Dolly has also admitted that Whitney did a much better job and that the song truly belongs to Whitney. Dolly has also said that she's wrote and sang the song, she had no idea that someone could to it 100 times better. Furthermore, Dolly has never won any awards for this song. Whitney has received numorous Grammys awards.
-
@musicexpo Back then though, country songs never really got much play/promotion on the pop charts, so many people didn't hear it. When Dolly crossed over, she did have some mega pop hits. Yeah, it is just an opinion, but so is your's. "Mostly everyone"? Please provide evidence of that.
-
@floydmatt987 Dolly's music was not exclusive to country and their fans. Dolly's music was exposed to people of all generes.Dolly had fans from people all over the world. Nonetheless, dolly's version still failed to reach the success it did with Whitney. Furthermore, you stating that dolly's version has more passion is just an opinion, not a fact. You're opinion is not shared by the majority, because mostly everyone seems to agree that Whitney brought it into a new level.

@musicexpo Thankyou for answering, many people don't answer the question when I ask that. I agree that Whitney did make this song more popular. Dolly's original reached No 1 on the country charts, because back then (1974) her albums/singles were only aimed at the country charts. Dolly's original was a success, just not on the pop charts. I think that Dolly's has more passion and emotion than Whitney's though.
This performance was performed by LaKisha exactly a year after she auditioned for American Idol on August 14th 2006. She has really been on an amazing journey since then but she has the most fantastic voice and personality as this video shows.... I hope you like it!!!
