My 5 year old almost died last year, she went DKA and had to be revived by the doctors twice and was in the ICU for two weeks. Thats when we found out that she was diabetic. While we were there in the ICU a 4 year old passed from DKA. I wish it was as you say "crap" but having almost lost my daughter, I would have to disagree. I hope that you NEVER have to experience your child that close to death, never hold them in your arms and see them gasp for air / lie there motionless in DKA

I was on the borderlines of ketoacidosis and I could have gone to ICU and I'm only 15 years old. This is a very scary situation and not a good thing.....

DKA is very dangerous it may result in serious complications and sometimes death i went into DKA a month ago and i agree with the rest of the people who have gone thru it, it is the worst pain i have felt in my life i felt like my heart was being stabbed and that it was going to stop thank God i was already in the E.R. when this happened and was sent to ICU right away, So in conclusion YES it is extremely dangerous and deadly.

@MJJSpokesman DKA can be very risky, as you can see in the video. It is a good idea for her to talk about her frequent hypos to an endocrinologist, if possible.

My fiancee has DKA. she's is very poorly. She has it frequently. :-( She's been reducing her insulin lately because she's been hypoing a lot.

MY daughter was hospitalized 2 years ago (age 18) in intensive care with DKA. We almost lost her. She was diagnosed at age 13 with type 1. Yes DKA is real....I'm sorry for your loss

i am 16,with type 1......i have gone in to "DKA" 4 times.iv had diabetes for 5 years. it causes the worst pian i have ever felt in my life! each time i am in icu for up to a week.sot to anyone with diabetes,i can stress it enough how important it is to hve good shuger numbers, and to stay on a good diet
Actually, that is sadly possible. People who have type 1 diabetes CAN go into DKA, such as the recent case with Casey Johnson, who died from it. You can Google her name + "diabetes" so you may see it. It's unfortunate and it should not happen, though.

I'm sorry about your friend. I was in the hospital all over new year with ketoacidosis. I've been diabetic for 8 years, and this was the first serious complication due to an infection. It is very scary to experience, and to see, but it can be prevented. Always keep an eye on your sugar level, especially when you're sick with no appetite, don't stop taking the insulin, this was my mistake and it nearly cost me my life. Thank you to all the doctors and nurses who saved my life.
