I grew up watching Gunsmoke but knew Festus as a Deputy Marshal. About 11 years ago I had digital cable and they had the Western Channel...and they played the earlier seasons where I got to know Chester (Dennis Weaver). One day, I flipped the tube on after work and there was Festus without a star in black and white...in jail singing...and with a most amazing voice. I was in awe...kinda like the first time I heard Jim Nabor's singing voice coming out of Gomer Pyle's mouth.
