I have spent a great deal of time searching the web looking for an easy method to replace those grotesque looking video thumbnails in Windows OS of a single still preview image of that actual film. This is 2010, Microsoft should have been on top of this along time ago, but unfortunately even with the introduction of Microsoft Windows 7 we still are confronted with these boring thumbnails. To me my video library is the heart of my computer, I love films! What I do is rip my movies into .AVI files and store them in the video folder. But this wasn't enough, I wanted them to be organised but at the same time I wanted them to show the actual DVD cover, so this is a method I created in order to achieve a beautiful looking video library.

This video demonstrates a method to change standard video thumbnail Icons to DVD covers, no matter what the video format.

Create excellent looking family thumbnails for your stored family video files!

Essentially how it works is you will be required to create and manipulate short cuts of videos within your library, and then replace that short cut icon with the DVD cover (Downloaded and created into an icon) of your choice, or any icon for that matter. If this sounds too techy for you, don't run! It is not as difficult as it sounds, the only tricky thing about it is ensuring the actual video is hidden but organised so that you can locate it in-case you plan to backup or move files. Furthermore, you can complete extra tasks in order to remove all indications of it actually being a short cut - see video for information regarding those methods.

This method can also be implemented to create a funky looking games folder where each game icon is the actual PC game cover (see video for demo).

Therefore enjoy this video and may your new video library look as sleek and as practical as mine.

Method can also be applied to the Vista libraries, not sure on XP.
