The Commuta-Car, originally built in the late '70 and early '80, is making a bit of a comeback as some residents look for ways to beat the high gas prices. The Commuta-Car runs on a golf cart battery.
The more important thing to think about isn't the specs on this obviously first gen ugly piece of cheese... but more on where we should be aiming our automotive industry. Even if you don't give a shit about the plannet, gas is really expensive... I could go to 2 cents a mile.

I'd like to see electric cars become more practical; I'd consider buying one (we live in semi-rural area). Key technology barriers are:
1. limited range on a charge
2. limited speed on the road
3. time (hours) to recharge batteries (vs. speed of gas fillup, every 300 miles)
4. no heat in winter nor a/c in summer (almost always; too much power drain on batteries)
AND: weigh the pollution for electricity, batteries etc. It may be worth it; I just want an accurate picture of environmental cost.

Just plain baller. If my job wasn't 40 miles away, I'd drive one

Highway? 30 mph is probably maximum speed.

I love it. No place to plug it in though; I live on the third floor. I covet it. How does it do on the highway?
