Eldridge Cleaver (1935-1998) was writer, radical intellectual, Black liberation theorist and Minister of Information of the Black Panther Party(1967-1971). Cleaver is the author of SOUL ON ICE and was in international exile(CUBA, ALGERIA & FRANCE) after participating in a shootout on 4/6/1968 against the police several days after the murder of Martin Luther King Jr. on 4/4/1968. Eldridge Cleaver was a leading exponent of Black liberation theory until his return to the U.S. from exile in 1975 when he surrendered to the FBI, served time in prison and subsequently became a born again Christian and renounced his radical past.

This excerpt was selected by the BROTHERWISE DISPATCH(brotherwise.com) editorial committee and is from a documentary film entitled ELDRIDGE CLEAVER, BLACK PANTHER directed by William Klein.
