This is a video I have to do for the upcoming Return to Vimy 2007 ceremony planned for the 90th anniversary of the battle of Vimy Ridge.
It is dedicated to all those who fought and who have died on that day.

  • I think the video is well done. You show a piture of my husbens great Grandfather in the video. Can i get a copy of this video.

  • Which one is he?

  • Its kind of unfair though? Canada did not jump into the war. We did not have one Mckenzie say we are going to war by his decision, Canadian man wanted to go to war. After britain declared war on Germany, Canadians where loyal to their motherland of Britain so men enlisted to go fight alongside of her. Just goes to show how brave We Canadians really are.

  • I really don't understand what you're trying to say. First you say it's unfair then you say we wanted to go...

It's unfair in the fact that we had no choice, but the entire country (minus Quebec) wanted to go anyways, so we would've. English Canadians rallied to the call of the motherland, while many French Canadians tried to stay as far away from their motherland as possible.

  • These Remembrance videos are excellent. Too bad only computer literate or able individuals get to see them. Many of the veterans who would really understand and appreciate them don't think to look at a web site they believe is for the young

and not for their taste miss so much. Congrats. Would love to be able to download this type of stuff for Remembrance Day services for all to see.

  • I had two teenagers use this for Rememberance Day...one for an Air Force Cadets presentation, the other for a high school.

  • i feel great 2 be canadian because of what our veterans have fought for, and even though many of them died, their bravery and courage will keep us going throughout our lives...rest in peace.

  • It was a great moment..but from a soldier....we cannot dwell upon the past....we need to move forward....NOW...else we will suffer! I hope you know what I mean

  • @WorldWarstudent Well said

  • see:- Tanglefoot vimy, says it all, no longer performing, but I am proud to say that I met them many times.

RIP the lost of both sides.

  • My Grand father joined the Black watch and fought in WW1 and then spent 2 years there cleaning up the mess .

No war since was even remotely as hard on the troops

Stories get inflated about the medal winners ,many did great heroic things that did not get recorded. Especially at the Somme ,Verdun and Vimy ridge etc...

My grand father was wounded by shrapnel twice and took a bad dose of gas a few times.

  • And also, the four people who reeceived the Victoria cross did amazing things, you should all look them up. I read somewhere that pet. Milne took down those trenches single handedely by running in front of his allies. And one of the others cleared out a bomb shelter of 72 German all by himself, crazy brave

  • It's hard to believe, but when you see those dead body's on the ground, they just look like a part of the landscape. But everyone of the men walking by them was probably related or friends with one of those body's. Imagine if your friend was killed right in front of you and you couldn't do anything about it. It's just sad. God bless all the Canadian soldiers everywhere

  • Canadians were committing suicide because they couldn't enlist..

  • As such it's dificult to really peg a "right side" one can simply peg instigators. the commonwealth, due to Britain's Network of alliances, wound up supporting the War's instigator's rather then the nations wronged by those actions. The First would have been a much different war had Britain held stronger alliances to Germany and Austria then to France and by extension Serbia. the Post War economic rape of Germany would likely not have occured, and by extension, neither would hitler's rise.

  • While canadian Myself, And immensely proud of the accomplishments of Canada as a nation during the first World war. a few Error's leaked into this video. the first world war had nothing to do with freeing anybody, or preserving freedom. it was an entirely political machination brought on by an assasination and the German/austrian repsonse to said assasination. said response was a retributive action for an attack upon the Succession of the Austro-hungarian throne.
