On the weekend of October 7 - 8, 2011, 130 Scouts and leaders plus many parents were on the campus of Hiwassee College for a Boy Scouts of America Camp-O-Ree. They were at Hiwassee from Friday night to Sunday morning. There were 11 troops from Athens, Tellico, Madisonville, Sweetwater, Etowah, Calhoun, and Englewood (from the Unaka District in McMinn, Meigs and Monroe Counties). The Madisonville troop was the largest with 27 boys and leaders. They held events such as Tug of War, Tomahawk Throw, Fire Building, Lashing Knots, Cross Cut Sawing, and Dutch Oven Cooking. They held a campfire Saturday night to hand out award ribbons to the winning patrols.
On Sunday morning, Hiwassee's own freshman, Caleb Gillette led Scouts in a worship service around the flagpole.
