Carlo Munier from Napoli was one of Italy's greatest mandolinists ever. Born in Naples on July 15, 1859 he was already at a very early age recognized as mandolin virtuoso of the highest rank. Besides his activities as a performer he was highly regarded as a teacher and composer as well. Many compositions of his hand - he wrote more than 300 works for mandolin in all kinds of strengths - are written for his students and with the idea of elevating the mandolin and its unique possibilities as a concert instrument, in mind. Carlo Munier died in Florence on February 11, 1911.
Ruth Rouw and Pauline Ulderink have chosen to perform Munier's 1st duet from the '3 Duetti Concertanti' Op. 9. The three movements are 1) Allegro mosso - 2) Andante - 3) Rondo allegretto.
Ruth and Pauline are members of the Dutch Mandolin Chamber Orchestra Het CONSORT and study the mandolin at the Centre for the Arts MUZERIE in Zwolle, Netherlands, under the guidance of their teacher Alex Timmerman.
Here they both play with the long two pointed Roman plectrum on Embergher 5bis Concert mandolins which are strung with bronze round wound CONSORT strings made by the German Lenzner/Fisoma string makers company.
This video was made on March 7th, 2009 during a rehears session at home in Zwolle, Netherlands.
Cool, thanks.

This is wonderful ! The way the tremolo is synchronized and the way the tremolo changes in intension when the music askes for it. This is really outstanding.
And I like the music. Just bought myself today a book with guitarduets by Munier, so I will dive into that right know.
