  • I bought this bourbon and was very unimpressed. I thought it lacked character and flavor. I also thought that it was maybe just me or a bad batch, but I continue to hear the same thing from online reviews... so... I don't know. I ended up giving the rest to the guys at the lake who think everything is "sooo smooth!" haha ;)

  • @bkohlho I am so glad you wrote to me and shared this, because ever since I have had this bottle, I keep thinking "maybe it's me. maybe I got a bad bottle. maybe I have a fatigued palate..." but it's good that I'm seeing it's NOT just me. The thing bout whisky is that consistency sometimes presents itself as an issue. Maybe we all are experiencing a barrel that gave up too much before this round of bottlings was made.

  • Could it be they use other (already used) casks for the 18y old?

But the flavour has to be much tronger, i agree. They surely ask more money for it.

Still, i learned (quickly) to ignore the color of any whisky.

I know my favorite brand Laphroaig probably use e150, i don't like it, but hey, what can you do.

Keep up your great vlogs :-)

  • @ilaphroaig my guess...in the case of this bottle, is that maybe the barrels just got overused. They gave up the ghost.

  • Why do you talk about color? Imho, that doesn't say anything these days with al the coloradditives. What do you think?

  • @ilaphroaig hey there. I am the biggest hooter and hollerer about how color does NOT mean a better or a worse whisky, (and yes what with the E150 pirates out there, all the more) BUT...in this case the color (and of course the taste) were clues that something was amiss. An 18 year old product, altered or not, should not look like watered down iced tea, which this did. And it was incredibly light in flavor.

  • Hey it's OK to give a bad report card to these companies ! I like it. Infact I have a whisky that I'll be reviewing shortly that will not be highly recommended ! Cheers

  • Me likey the twirl too! Seriously, is twirling going to destroy your dram of whiskey? That is ludicrous.

Glad to see another one of your reviews, keep them coming.

  • They released a Limited Edition of a 20-yr. Elijah Craig this year that you can only get at the HH Visitor's Center. One barrel only. 140 or so bottles. $120. I think it was the highest rated bourbon lat year by Whiskey Review. Nice collector item.

  • twirling is a strange thing in that I have seen distiller representatives both twirl like a tilt a whirl and others tell you not to twirl at all that it releases too much alcohol vapors and ruins the nose...just like what you decide to sip I think its all preference...
