Half a world away from family and friends for months on end, pets... usually dogs.... brought companionship and comfort to countless young American soldiers.
Like our Vietnamese allies, all but a lucky few were left behind to fend for themselves. Sadly, as Americans withdrew, abandoning their bases and camps, the order came down to exterminate the dogs. (Our Vietnamese allies would fare only slightly better).
This video serves to honor and pay respect to these creatures for the comfort and companionship they gave us. Thank you Fart, Maggot, Lifer, Dammit, Shithead, Candyass and all the others, especially Cindy, our gang's mascot at Long Thanh North.
Heartwarming :)
My dad served in Vietnam from '66-'69 ... they had a dog named Rusty who lives on in old black and white photos.
