  • I would argue that REBT is the only way to happiness. I would also arge that trying to avoid ever being unhappy is irrational and unrealistic. It is OK to be unhappy when it's appropriate. I am not happy that I will die - that IS what makes me want to find meaning and happiness. I like this video its just a little oversimplified.

  • @ironjohnlad Interesting. I'll have to check those out. Seems like rapport building is extremely important with the less touchy-feely approaches.

  • @MrGrevy Only up to a point. One of the reasons for MBCT was the high failure /relaps rate of conventional CBT for depression. Also the comparitive evidence shos that CBT is no more or less effective than other therapies. MBCT and the new Compassin Focused Therapy ( New CBT ) or really superior to REBT, because they recognise the different operating systems in the brain. Focusing- oreitned therapy is also brilliant !

  • @ironjohnlad Skeptical about cbt and rebt?? Wow. It's evidence based practice and highly, highly effective. There is really no debate about that.

  • There are some intersting ideas in this, like the idea that this is the only life we can be sure of. Its also true that negative emotions, are really telling us something has gond wrong that we need to put right. Such emotions make great servants, but not very good masters. I am however very sceptical about REBT, with its ABC theory. I prefere the non touch body awarness techniques associated with mindfulness and focusing !

  • I am an atheist. Our nature is no birth and no death. But you can not say you didn't exist before birth. Prove: you were in dad's sperm and mum's egg. Neither can you say you will disappear after death. Prove: you leave your prints to the cosmos e.g. actions, child. You can not die but continue in other form (dust, air, soil, fruit, worm etc.). You are actually made with non-you element e.g. water, sun, food, history. There is no you as an individual being but as inter-beings with everything.

  • These are some great ideas, I just wish the audio was louder.
