I fail to understand the significance of this letter and this man's story.
The letter was from this gentlemen to the President that didn't get there.
If it was the other way around I would see the significance of this letter.
He was at just one speech that FDR gave and he was only nine so his memory of an insignificant speech would have little interest. The program was trying to pander to African Americans instead of trying to incorporate their story into the showv in a meaningful way..

This show was nothing less than an acting, writing and directing tour de force.

beautiful scene

"You sit quietly over there and try to resist the temptation to bill me for something." Quite simply some of the best writing ever done for television.

I love Charlie. <3

@beanfilms A bit of a late comment, but... Don't forget about the directors. You can have the best writers in the world but unless you've got a good director it's all for nothing, especially when it comes to scenes like this.

Dule Hill just has so much class as Charlie Young.

I was watching this series at the beginning of my 12 year relationship with my darling Natasha. I was watching it during my early days as a teacher. I was even watching it the night some idiots flew some planes into some buildings. I have just recently begun again with Season 1 episode 1 and Leo McGarry's 9 minute walk and talk through the communications office. I will watch this series until I can no longer mentally understand it.

What a wonderful example of a man and his dignity. I keep thinking that Charlie would have loved to have this man as his grandpa. He's so proud. Proud of this man and proud of his President. And Mr. Tadum gets Charlie's look and chuckles. Charlie is overwhelmed as well. It's not often I use the word, "perfect" but this bit was perfectly done from the start to the finish. Writing, directing, music but expecially the acting. Perfect emotions shown through artists like these. Stunning.
