That's what our guest tonight argues in his latest book, by travelling to, and documenting life and the destruction of it in so called, "sacrifice zones". This includes the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota; the city of Camden, N.J.; the now leveled mountains of West Virginia; and the migrant-worker camps that resemble modern day slavery of southwest Florida. So why are they sacrifice zones? Because both human beings and the natural world have been used and then discarded to maximize earnings in a marketplace that rules without constraints. They're perhaps the most shocking and in your face examples, but should they be used as a warning sign as to where the rest of the country, and the world are headed? Alyona discusses his new book "Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt" with Chris Hedges Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter and Senior Fellow at the Nation Institute.

Financial sector is a giant parasite that's devouring our whole economy. Nothing will change unless banking is dealt with.

All true. But the US mainstream media is a lot worse. I just can't stand the lies and slant any more. It's all owned by six big businesses. It's the big business Pravda, used by them against us.

I can listen to this about the US, and read the US media to get my news about Russia. Russia is handing US dissidents a microphone and letting them tell the truth. The US has been doing that to Russia for decades. Seems fair to me.

    > And all this shit talking about "American surveillance" of its own population.

Check out William Binney, ex-NSA. He resigned because of their program of total surveillance of US citizens. Everything -- credit cards transactions, email, web searches, cell phone locations -- goes into a permanent data base. Don't believe me? You can hear him say it himself.

The Senate Intelligence Committee is supposed to oversee the program, but the NSA will tell them nothing. There is no control.

She was also born in Moscow in 1986 and is obviously a Kremlin puppet.

And all this shit talking about "American surveillance" of its own population. Coming from the Kremlin, that's rich. All the old KGB hands are still around and up to their old tricks, including the spy-in-chief Putin. I'm sure they don't wiretap or monitor the internet at all. What a joke. The American government may be stepping on thin constitutional ice, but it is unlikely we approach the sort of privacy-violation that goes on in Putin's private kingdom; at least domestically.

Exactly my thoughts.RT News is 100% funded by the Russian government and smacks of new-age Kremlin propaganda. The Russian government has collapsed into a paradise of state-sponsored thuggery. Putin and his gangsters have made themselves effective kings, nationalized Russia's gas/oil reserves and use it to reenforce their invincible inner-circle of power. America has its flaws, no doubt. But we should be mindful that this barrage of criticism comes right from the master-kleptomaniacs in Moscow.

The critical flaw in RT is that it is run by the Kremlin. 100% funded by the Russian government. While much of what they say is true and shades of truth, we cannot forget that the Russian government is a Kleptocracratic Oligarchy, with a few fabulously wealthy people at the top controlling everything. The government is corrupt, Putin seems to be making himself king and poverty is rampant as well as a sharp wealth gap. America has its flaws, but lets not forget who is funding this smack talk.

While I agree with some of what was said, lets not forget that RT News is a RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT OWNED news station. Alyona Minkovski was born in Moscow in 1986. While I appreciate much of RT's content, you can hear the socialist bent in almost everything delivered. They NEVER criticize Russia in any way and never even mention Putin or his gangsters. Its bash bash bash America constantly. This smacks of Soviet Style propaganda, designed to make Americans fear and mistrust their government.
