This novel fusion of car-chase film and spooky horror became a surprise box-office hit in 1975. The story begins with car enthusiasts Frank (Warren Oates) and Roger (Peter Fonda) taking their wives, Kelly (Lara Parker) and Alice (Loretta Swit), on a vacation in a recreational vehicle. Their camping trip goes horribly awry when Frank and Roger accidentally stumble upon a group of hooded Satanists committing a human sacrifice. The cultists give chase and the two couples barely escape with their lives. They go to the local police for help, but the officers can find no evidence to back up the story and send the two couples on their way. As they try to continue their vacation, strange events continue to occur that culminate in the four vacationers and their cultist tormentors having a brutal automotive showdown on the open road. Will they survive? Watch and see!

@zagor1974 Yeah, in the 70s, TV shows borrowed whole movie plot lines for an episode. There was an episode of the Incredible Hulk that was JUST LIKE the 70s movie of the week called "duel" that starred Dennis Weaver. It was such a blatant rip off that it was pathetic.

What cracks me up about this film is it's really not a very pretty camping spot at all.

Yah, i saw this on tv; couldn't have been long after the theater showing. I was about 9. Always remembered the chanting; wondered what they were saying. Sounds nothing like I remembered. Ha ha.

What's so scary about this movie is it is so plausible; this could easily happen to any couples anywhere traveling in the USA, there are more than enough satanists who would love to do this to strangers.

Damn. Ginger's freaking out and all barked up, like, "Get me the fuck outta here, you stupid idiots!" Dogs always know when there's evil afoot. :-)
