Foreign policy expert Neil Joeck examines Pakistan's "strange relationship" with terrorism.

-----

Since 9/11, the U.S. and Pakistan have collaborated on regional security issues.

However, the recent replacement of Pervez Musharraf by President Zardari and an impending change in the White House promise a new era of both opportunities and challenges.

Joeck, a leading expert on both South Asian and nuclear issues who served on the White House staff, will examine the U.S.-Pakistan relationship - The Commonwealth Club of California

Neil Joeck is a Senior Fellow at the Center for Global Security Research (CGSR) at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley. He served from 2004 to 2005 as Director for Counterproliferation Strategy at the National Security Council. Dr. Joeck was primarily responsible for India and Pakistan proliferation issues, but also worked on the Bush-Putin Bratislava summit, the Nonproliferation Treaty Review Conference, and Department of Homeland Security and multilateral regime (CWC, BWC, MTCR) issues. From 2001-2003, he was a member of the Policy Planning Staff at the Department of State, where he was responsible for the India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and nuclear proliferation portfolios. He received the Meritorious Honor Award, and the Policy Planning staff the Superior Honor Award, for work on Afghanistan following September 11.

  • Pakistan has always been a rented state since its formation. As soon as it formed, it became a rented state for Saudi Arabia, which in turn is using pakistan for its dream of 'Islamic Caliphate'. Pakistan is also rented to USA, which used it during the soviet invasion of afghanistan during cold war. Now pakistan is being rented out to China... Pakistan never had its own identity, but always a rented state..

  • Pakistan has become a failed state because it used 'terrorism' as a state policy for Kashmir in India. If you dig a hole for others there are chances that you may fall into it. That's what is happening in Pakistan. They tried to set fire Kashmir and now their own home is burning. All this is because of the 'intolerance' preached by ISLAM. I hope that pakistan will disintegrate into pieces, only then peace can be achieved in the world

  • yo where did u get this story from... ? thats just bullshit mate

  • The Taliban were recorded as far as around the early 19th Century according to Robert Fisk, Middle east correspondent for the Independent. They were recorded by the British Army during the first Anglo Afghan war between 1839 to 1842. The Taliban feel they are the indigenous people of Afghanistan and want other minorities like the Hazaras out. They will not support anyone's interest than their own which is understandable.

  • the last thing is u & ur half fried nigga president gonaa plan 2 attack Pak

  • @shoje9 yes...even we will never leave our sindhi and baloch brothers...we will fight till we take them into India.

  • @mradamdavey you are partially correct....but it still has an identity throughout its history after formation. It is always an islamic state and tried to bring Islamic sharia law upon the whole country.

  • The relationship between Pakistan and terrorism is that of a parent-child relationship. Pakistan is the parent and terrorism is the child.

  • Pakistan and terrorism go hand in hand.

  • Obama should continue drone attacks over Paki skies.

  • @DD826 we dont leave our people alone it doesnt matter where they are .. so if that means taking care of kashmiri pakistanis will keep on fighting the indian

  • sad to hear people believe that about pakistan .

FYI the Pakistani army is fighting in its own land (the north west) to eradicate terrorists . we are losing our resources and putting our lives in danger to get rid of the terrorism and yet ppl think that we support terrorism . pure ignorance on their part . learn your facts ! its easy to post bullshit on the internet without knowing shit about what your saying.
