Citadels are a striking new widescreen-pop 3 piece from East London turning heads with their provocative heart on the sleeve brilliance. Choosing to be self-sufficient all writing, production, and design work are done by the band as part of the same vision.
Beginning life as a 5 piece, early meetings between principal songwriters Bramble Ferguson, Jimmy Lazers, and Lucy Sunchild brought about the their first collection of demos which they called the Animals EP in late 2008.
Standing shoulders above any tired post-punk or incoming synth pop it wasn't long before Steve Lamacq was championing it on his BBC 6Music show, before receiving further support from Tom Robinson, Gary Crowley and Shaun Keaveny. The band also found itself featured as the unsigned ones to watch on Channel 4s 4Music website. During this time they played several shows in and around London including BE @ Proud Galleries, Kingstons infamous New Slang night, and The Great Escape and Standon Calling Festivals.
Further interest prompted a debut single release of Golden Islands through Friends vs Records in August 2009, an up-beat summer single that was branded as glistening art-pop by the Sunday Times, making it their 'Hottest Download of the Week.' Artrocker, The Fly and Disorder Magazine where amongst a plethora of further glowing reviews, including the accolade of Pop Justices 'Song of the Day'.
Citadels rounded off 2009 with an appearance at ITC, a Levi's Ones To Watch show, a headline Club NME performance at Londons Koko, and a request to play at SXSW.
2010 sees a streamlined 3 piece line-up creating a more focused sound. Multi-instrumentalists, often changing mid-set or even mid-song, Citadels are a raw and enticing live prospect. Shows have been described as carnivalesque and a dream-laced heaven-bound excursion (The Fly magazine).
They can also be found at their monthly residency at new venue Carnivale in East London. The band is curating nights of their favourite new bands and DJs and displaying pieces from local artists.
Fresh from being selected for industry news hotbed Record of the Day, new single 'The Chemical Song' will be released on Pure Groove Records as a limited 7 exclusive, and available to download from March 1st 2010....

Pa-leeeze, Citadelsmusic, could you post Animals, with lyrics? (Can they be found anywhere else online?) Even better would be a filmed live version -- the one I saw at Hoxton Bar in 2009 was just unbelievable.
