  • Why is it called Takama?

  • @Feldkahl Thanks for the question. Although "Takama No Hara" has religeous overtones, there is a translation of "all encompassing Universe". That is a great description of what I am trying to achieve in Aikido. Open mindedness to all angles and possibilities.

  • @aiki3d Thanks for answering. It got me curious, because I practice an old Indian Style called Takama (or Hon Kai Karate, as the Japanese call it). The name apparently comes from the word Taklamakan, (now) a desert in India. I guess I wanted to find out, if there was any relation :-)

  • @Feldkahl I"ve never heard of that style. Can you give me a reference to look it up?

  • is there any aikidoka video in a REAL STREET FIGHT? i mean used aikido in a real streetfight?

  • I don't know of any video of Aikido in a real street fight. Aikido is a practice rooted in conflict resolution and self defense. I don't mean for this to sound like a cop-out,but the best way to win a street fight is to not be there. Thanks for the comment.

  • From experience I have used 2 or 3 techniques in real situations. I did big security work...not your average security guard guy haha.. much more serious than that. Ive used Hiji jime, Yonkajo/Yonkyo, and Nikkajo/Nikkyo....nobody filmed it.. haha.

  • Hi RBM! Thanks for the critique. What can I say.NGA is in my blood.TB

  • Looks Like Nihon Goshin Aikido To Me. Not Bad! But You Should Blend More! And Not Reach For Your Attackers Hands, When You Blend The Attackers Arms Will Fall Into Your Hands. Good Luck..RBM

  • good video. Interesting knife take away.
