This is a motorized Hunter Douglas Duette room darkening shade controlled by a wall switch and a remote. Please see the details about this system below (if these parameters do not fit your application there are other systems are available that may better suit):
This shade is powered by a power supply that is plugged into a standard electrical outlet strategically placed by an electrician at the motor location. The power supply is mounted by a window covering installer at the shade location and supplies power to the shade via low voltage wire. The wall switch is also connected to the shade via low voltage wire running through the wall to the wall switch location. If a wall switch is not desired it is still necessary since it also serves as a receiver for the remote control signal. If only the remote control is used the wall switch is then mounted next to the power supply at the motor location.
Since external components are required for this particular shade they are most often hidden by a custom soffit, valance or cornice box as you see here. One wall switch is required per shade for individual operation however you can control up to two shades as a group (raising and lowering simultaneously). One power supply can operate up to four shades.
