  • Hey Eel,

When I was in grade school we did Duck and Cover drills, this was during the Cuban Missle Crisis and as kids we didn't understand how serious the situation was. I look back now and shudder.

  • Hi, Amy! Yes, I'm a bit younger than you, but I grew up in Canada. My playground had an air raid siren in one corner & we did air raid drills for much longer than it made any sense to.

I think, "Duck And Cover," was supposed to be psychologically soothing, since dropping to the ground & curling into the fetal position doesn't really offer adequate protection against the detonation of a hydrogen bomb.

You may as well just hug yourself & rock back & forth while you're at it. :)

  • lol where was that vedio first premeired

    the duck and cover thing

  • "From the Wikipedia:

Duck and Cover was a social guidance film produced in 1951 by the United States federal government's Civil Defense branch shortly after the Soviet Union began nuclear testing. Written by Raymond J. Mauer and directed by Anthony Rizzo of Archer Productions and made with the help of schoolchildren from New York City and Astoria, New York, it was shown in schools as the cornerstone of the government's "duck and cover" public awareness campaign."

  • This is hilarious!

  • Thanks!

I wish I had had more time to polish it up a little...
