The original hit recording of "Everybody Loves A Lover" was written by Robert Allen and Richard Adler and was made by Doris Day in 1958. In 1962 The Shirelles took the lyrics to this song and substituted the music used by Barbara George for her hit "I Know (You Don't Love Me No More)" which was melodically close to the original anyway. The Shirelles took "Everybody Loves A Lover" into the Top 20 during December of 1962.
I prefer this version to the cutsie pie one by Doris Day.
Also, the one by Sandie Shaw is a lot of fun, too. Somebody please upload that!

Somebody at Stax must have liked this song, maybe Otis himself. The first half of the sax solo and most of the chord progression is the same as his tune "Down in the Valley."

This is as far above Doris Day's version as the stars are above the ocean bottom. The live version of this song from 1964 is one of the best videos on Youtube.
