So I had a teacher at my college tell me that it was a piano transcription of Ravel's orchestral score: La Valse. He was playing the last section. That piano doesn't have long legs. Mr. Gould just happens to have a habit of sitting in the same chair that keeps him low.

@4hm3dimr4n Don't know, but I'd love one of those pianos with the very tall legs that he's playing

@4hm3dimr4n Ravel's La Valse....it's listed.....

Gould's seemingly continuous gradation of the dynamics in his playing is shown well in the last piece. Also, the ways he can articulate passages and phrases within phrases really astonishes me. I'm no scholar of classical pianists but I'm sure very few have ever been on his technical level. And on the movie question, I wouldn't rule out an actor who is more interesting than any of his roles, Hugh Grant, if he could do the accent.

Does anyone know what Mr. Gould is playing at 2:07? I would never expect him to play something like that.

@sirdelrio thanks for that.. close. What I was saying is that Asperger's is certainly a disability- just not a disability of intelligence. The deficits are in the area of understanding and employing non-verbal communication and reading social cues, as well as fixated interest in specific, sometimes unusual subjects. It can be very debilitating for those living with it. Gould seems to have had some features but, of course, he being dead for 30 years, can't be diagnosed.

@kerpin09 sorry, i didn't read your comment well. you were not arguing about that he did have asperger's, but that asperger's is not disability. and you are right.
-
@kerpin09 no, they have a remarkable particular skill, they cannot talk fluently, they cannot interpret language but literally, have childish psychosexuality. I'd like you to give some examples of those asperger geniuses. Because i'm the one who is afraid that all those controverting my comment are relying on 'popular culture' notions about the syndrome, and not on the psychiatrical diagnostic. There are many articles, and even documentaries about aspies, should watch them.

@sirdelrio Im afraid you re mistaken here. though it is impossible to say that he had Asperger's, that disorder is not indicitive of an intellectual disability. quite the opposite. Most people with AS have normal intelligence and some have superiour intellectual abilty. Genius and AS are not necessarily exclusive

It's about time for a movie on the life of Glenn Gould. In my opinion Johnny Depp would do a great job portraying this intelligent, creative and charismatic man.
