My mom was diagnosed with breast Cancer in 2006 and has been fighting it ever since. She takes a chemo treatment called avastin and that is the only chemo she will be able to take to prevent the cancer from returning. The FDA wants to disapprove Avastin. If this happens her only option is to wait for the cancer to return. Please sign this simple petition to help avastin be available to all of the women who rely on this treatment to live.

here is a link to a page that has a video explaining it as well.

Here is my mom's link from her tv interview: http://www.wlbt.com/Global/story.asp?S=12972298

Some articles about what exactly is going on and why we should keep avastin:

FDA advisory panel voted 12-1 to pull Avastin to treat metastatic breast cancer.

This medication is NOT being pulled for safety reasons! Current clinical studies didn't show that it extended lives as long as the FDA thought it should.

Despite the study this drug is a miracle drug for some of metastatic breast cancer patients especially with a type of breast cancer called triple negative.

If nothing is done, the FDA will disapprove the drug, December 17, 2010, which means in most cases, insurance companies will not pay for this treatment and the cancer patient, would be 100% responsible for the cost

This would be a huge disservice and death sentence to people with metastatic breast cancer who are responding well to this meditation. Every patient will have a different response to Avastin, but every patient should have the right to choose!

Let breast cancer patients have the choice of a medicine that may hold our cancer at bay and allow us hope that we will be around when a cure is found.

Show your support for her and the thousands of metastatic breast cancer survivors who want the same opportunities as others to LIVE and beat the statistics

Please sign this petition to let the FDA know you thing this drug should not be disapproved for metastatic breast cancer patients!

  • Love your mom, and you for doing this! I know next week is important for all of us on Avastin! Thank you for helping us fight!!!

  • @llwoods2 Let me also say that I don't think that what the FDA decides will affect those of us who have had Avastin for vision. The FDA has never approved Avastin for Macular Degeneration and, thus, it must be used "off label" when it comes to the eye. As far as I know the FDA has no say when it comes to the use of Avastin for the eye. Thousands of eye doctors in the U.S. routinely use Avastin with very high success rates. Without Avastin I would be legally blind in my right eye.

  • @llwoods2 I have massive scarring on the retinas of both my eyes. As a consequence I am legally blind in my left eye. In August of 2008 the retina of my right eye started to leak, distorting the vision in that eye. I was able to get a shot of Avastin directly into my eye. AVASTIN SAVED MY EYESIGHT. Two and a half years later the vision in my right eye has returned to "normal" and has stabilized. Avastin is a miracle drug for people like myself or people who have Macular Degeneration.

  • This video really touched my heart. I have the BRCA1 genetic mutation which greatly increased my chance of breast cancer. I've undergone a double prophylactic mastectomy with reconstruction as well - to avoid the painful route your mother had no choice but to take. I've shared your video and your mom's story on my blog (Teri's Blip in the Universe), and have signed the petition. What a wonderful son you are!

  • Avastin is also used for macular degeneration. she has kept limited vision because of this drug. if they remove it, she won't be able to afford treatment. her doctor told her she MUST keep getting shots or go completely blind. i don't think that the government should remove a drug that helps so many, including those with breast cancer, colon cancer, & macular.
