http://MPGomatic.com restores a pair of headlights on the 170K Battlecruiser, using Mothers Plastic Polish, a Black & Decker buffing wheel on a Bosch cordless drill, and three levels of wet/dry sandpaper (600, 800, 1000 grit).

I've never done this before. Amazingly, I didn't screw it up.

Yep, I should have masked everything out beforehand ...

  • You could easily pop the hood open so you don't have to worry about masking or scuffing half the painted area.

  • @mx5hong True, but the buffer flings that polish all over the place ...

  • Yes, you can see better at night but does this improve mpg?

  • @Idrinkvault Lemme think about this ... how about ... "with the road lit more effectively at night, you can reduce the number of times you need to step on the brake, and consequently, step on the accelerator to regain speed." :)

  • not a bad video, but, the way your doing it isn't correct.its best to start with ( depending on how bad it is, learn from experience) 600,800,1000,1500,2000,2500, when your sanding, keep the headlights wet as possible to keep debris out and the sanded plastic away, as not to clog your sandpaper also. also, i find its easier to change directions with each higher grit, to know when you need to keep sanding. ex. 600 up & down 800 left to right, 1000, up & down, etc.then buff. hope this helps!

  • @Nebraskahusker23 Yep ... and even better, it's minty fresh!

  • OEM's replaced glass with plastic and no one complained and now we got one more crap that we have to do to our cars, BTW I see hundreds of cars with opaque headlights and the owners are oblivious to it, very dangerous situation when driving in the dark.

  • I found that using a strong polish compound and terry cloth towels gets the job done, but it has to be done once a month!

  • @lfsracer79 Whatever's in the driveway that week.

  • @mpgomatic So if the Honda stays in the garage, what is your daily driver in the winter?

  • @MattHutzell Maybe on a slow week? It stays in the garage for most of the winter. It's such a hoot to hoon ... but not in lousy weather. I only really like to drive it when it's warm enough to put the top down.

  • @mpgomatic You've absolutely got to be kidding me. You drive an S2K, and there are no (to my knowledge) videos of it!? I demand a review! :P

  • @MattHutzell Thanks, Matt. S2K!
