The Little Mermaid or Die Kleine Meerjungfrau as we'd say is the only Disney film that has been translated into Austrian German. Now, if Germans can understand Austrian German depends on how strong someone's dialect is and where from Germany you are. Caroline Vasicek sings this song with just a slight trace of a dialect so it was no problem for me to figure out what she meant. The lyrics are almost the same as the German 1998 ones except for a few lines, that's why I don't think it's necessary to give you a vocabulary list. ;-)

Isn't Snow White 1938 also Austrian?

@Robodl99 I just did some research about that and here's what I found out: It's not clear where the film has been dubbed, it could be Austria though. Apparantly there's no official information who the dubbers are. All I know for certain is that the premiere of the German version of Snow White was in 1950, thus 13 years after the US premiere.

Tatsache, der Text ist der neuen deutschen Fassung sehr ähnlich, aber die Sängerin ist ne andere. Auch wenn ich den Grund nicht ganz sehe. Einen österreischigen Dialekt höre ich nicht wirklich raus. oÔ;;

@JayTigris Ich finde, in der Reprise hört man es. Die Vokale sind deutlich länger gezogen als auf Hochdeutsch. Außerdem sind die Dialoge eindeutig in einem österreichigen Dialekt gesprochen.

@Melilotona Ich kenne die österreichische Dub ansonsten gar nicht, ich wusste bis heute nicht mal, dass es eine gibt. In jedem Fall mag ich hier die Sängerin lieber als die in der neuen deutschen Fassung.

@JayTigris Die Reprise dieses Liedes ist ja in zwei Teile geteilt, dazwischen ist ein Dialog. Der ist wirklich ganz eindeutig nicht hochdeutsch. :) Du kannst dir die österreichische Version auf YT angucken und dann wirst du hören, was ich meine. Die gesamte österreichische Synchronisation kenne ich bislang auch noch nicht!

its funny , i'm danish, i've just started to teach myself german, but this version - austrian german - is easier to understand ?! don't know if the lyrics are more simple but i'm having an easier time reading them than i did with the german one.. that's nice!

Finde diese Versi besser als die deutsche von 98, aber Platz 1 bleibt die ganz alte Version. Was heißt alt? Ist immerhin grade mal Ende 80er. ;D

Ich finde die Lyrics der 1989 Version um Längen schöner und poetischer.

Aber vom Gesang her ist Caroline Vasicek für mich auf Platz 1 :)

German is a language that fits well with Ariel's poetic dream. I pretty love this version.
