Gear Shift

All gears can turn together. But it is also possible to pull the gears apart in two sets of four. Each set of four can be turned individually. And there are three ways to split the gears. The object of this puzzle is similar to Rubik's Cube: scramble it and then try to solve it.

The puzzle on the video was 3D-printed using nylon-powder SLS technology, see http://www.shapeways.com/model/139482/gear_shift.html. It is the very first prototype. Now a mass-produced version is produced by Mefferts and available from PuzzleMaster.ca.

I just got one of these today, though it is a miracle it got here ok. The box wasn't even taped shut, it just had a string tied around it. I got this as a gift and apperently they ordered it about a month ago from mefferts.com and it came thursday. But there is no harm done to the puzzle so it's fine. This is by far my current favorite cube even though it is easy to solve it's fun to just turn in your hand. Keep up the good work!
