  • If I'm not mistaken Nighthawks was painted sometime in the 30's, so, I would guess that either Wilder, or the art director on this film were admirers of Edward Hopper.

    Now that you mention it, a lot of Noir seems influenced by Hopper's stark, simple visual style, & his rather bleak social commentary.
