Because corporations are people, or display people-like qualities. And sometimes they need a pat on the back. Or a hug. Or permission to expand offshore drilling. So BP has introduced Voices From The Gulf!

So, BP has chosen to treat the genuine badassery of people trying to eke out a living in the midst of the shitstorm they created as...a branding opportunity. Thanks BP! We get that you're still in the Gulf, what would it take for you to get the fuck out and take all that oil and Corexit with you?

It's hard to count the number of reasons these people should go directly to hell: http://news.wfsu.org/post/two-years-a...

Thank y'all for commenting, and that includes Joel.

The real question is why industries that can cause such large amounts of contamination and destruction of life allowed to do what they do without proved methods of dealing with failures with effective means.

We still don't really know the extent and long term damages to the Gulf, to Fukushima and previous disasters. We do know that oil spill response has not changed much in 30 years.

I found tarballs on Horn Island (a wilderness area south of the Mississippi Coast) a year after BP declared that the beaches were clean. Dozens of dead dolphins are still washing up from Alabama to Texas, and NOAA won"t tell us why, or let anyone else necropsy the carcasses.

So what? How does that justify BP killing the Gulf of Mexico or putting tens of thousands of people into early graves?

If I threw a gum wrapper on the freeway, a cop could fine me $1,000. But big polluters dump millions of tons of toxins on our heads and pay nothing. How can you justify them destroying the planet simply because they make stuff for us?

they probably supply the petrol/diesel for the boats that go fishing to supply the population with fish,
