Here's a little original work from me. I've been doing mostly covers, so here's something new.

This song is called Dreamscape, it originated as a song I made in Guitar Hero 5 (which I haven't released, so don't look for it), but then I brought it into Guitar Pro and then subsequently turned it into chiptune via FL Studio.

Enjoy.

  • How many channels can an NES have?

  • @DubyaTeeEff 5 channels, 2 pulse channels (the main melody usually), 1 triangle channel (generally for bass), 1 noise channel (used for crowd noises and such, it was essentially white noise), and 1 DPCM channel which, correct me if i'm wrong, was used for the drums.

  • @shblaze30k looking back at this, i'm not entirely sure what the DPCM channel is for (i don't actually do this in Famitracker or anything), but the noise channel can be used for drums also. someone smarter can probably explain it.

  • That appears to be the NTSC Atari 2600 color palette. What system did you model this chiptune from? Sounds to be a mix of NES, Master System and C64.

  • @Novetrix you would be correct about the Atari 2600 palette. it's actually a screenshot from an old Activision prototype. i liked how it looked and i didn't have another picture to use, so i used that.

and it's supposed to be based on NES more than the other systems, but this is when i used a mix of chiptune instruments, so styles kinda mix. but my newer work is a bit more streamlined and more NES-influenced.

  • How many channels/simultaneous notes did you use for this song?

  • @ODMSys 4 channels, 1 for rhythm, 1 for lead, 1 for bass and 1 for drums. not too complicated.

  • Holy crap man. that was great! Awesome stuff.

  • i mean no offense to square when saying this, but seriuosly, based on this song alone, i would say you are at that skill level. this could be in FF easily, or, gosh..this was very very VERY fun to listen to, i kept seeing pixels.

your making me want to learn to make music finally,,8 bit just does so much with so litttle, i think it forces creativity,

i love that you made this in GH5, yet in moved so well down to 8 bit. teach me, show me you ways.loll..no but..yea..teach me?

  • Dude make this a legit song because it's DEFINITELY qualified (if not overqualified) to be one. Gahhhh like I'm obsessed with this! I love video game music and this song just has so much emotion, feeling, and ardor in it. I love making music too (video music HELLZY YEAH 8D) and man this is just something I would listen to/make especially with the blandness of music nowdays. Awesome!
