Tavis Smiley, Cornel West and Amy Goodman discuss the state of the media in a post-Citizens United world, where networks serve the public interest by informing voters while simultaneously receiving millions of dollars for political advertisements. This program was co-sponsored by Democracy Now!, Smiley & West, and Haymarket Books.

This program was recorded by Chicago Access Network Television (CAN TV).

Tell the truth Tavis. Black folks will lose ground. Obama has these uncle tom negroes in place to hold back the complaints and hurt of Black folks. These uncle toms are used in all areas of suffering for Blacks. The uncle toms are sent to Blacks and they tell us, "calm down, everything is going to be okay". They back us down and shut us up until the issues are gone from the spotlight.

All of this is good. Dr. West starts at min 58 (ROCKS!) truly inspired words, followed by a Q&A, If you do not have time to watch it all, at least watch that part.

Well said. Obama does not serve us. He is a manager for the wealthy few in this country, just research who funded his campaign.

Taviis and West are on point. Obama is an Uncle Tom and has turned away from Afrikan people

I think Tavis got too comfortable with the wrong people. His issue is poverty which will never be eradicated and poor people will always exist. Claud Anderson explain the trick of fake black leaders speaking on generalized horizontal issues like poverty and the poor. Tavis never had black people in mind. I hope he don't get back on the air. I stopped watching his show.

Tavis had all this coming because instead of he and West going to the people that they claim to speak on behalf of , they do these lectures and speeches that do not take place in the communities that these problems exist.. I'm concerned about PBS and NPR as well as local am radio , that I think Tavis aught to be also promoting and supporting .

Why did the panel refuse to address the question on illegal immigration taking the jobs of Americans?
