Shot today coming through Welham Green in Hertfordshire.

Britain turned the clock back almost 50 years to the romantic age of steam as a £3 million steam train built by volunteers carried passengers to the capital in style.

The Tornado, the first mainline steam locomotive to be built in Britain for nearly five decades, steamed from Darlington to London's Kings Cross at the end of a week in which Britain's modern-day rail services have been severely disrupted.

The apple-green engine, which was built with donations from enthusiasts over 18 years, pulled the Talisman train into London half an hour later than expected due to electrical problems near Peterborough.

  • 0.20 Go-on kid, get closer. Get closer, see if you can touch it. That yellow line ? Oh that is nothing.

  • Ha ha!, I hadn't noticed that until now!, crazy!

  • Many thanks, I think a lot of people will be expecting this video to switch to Rick Astley instead!

I just wish I had shot this from the bridge as the platforms were really crowded as you can imagine.

I am sure it will pass through again soon so next time I will shoot from the bridge.

  • now, me, i thought steamers were going hither and fro across England regularly - not? or was this a special outing for this engine?

  • if this was heartforshire.. it could have been the run they did on this weeks top gear. perhaps.
