  • how many volt and amp are you getting out of this?

  • The generator was getting 18V at 60 RPM. I'm currently building a new one that should do better. The magnets were too small compared to the coils. I'm going to try a generator design that is closer to the WindSpire design. I'm also planning to work on an integrated inverter so that the output can plug directly into the power box, similar to the WindSpire solution. The goal is to design something that will operate at much lower wind speeds so that the average home can make use of it.

  • Im interested in the turbine itself. What materials are you using in the wings?

  • Just some clear heavy duty vinyl from Jo-Ann Fabric taped on with black Gorilla Tape

The PVC pipes are schedule 80 grey conduit from Home Depot.

You might call ahead to make sure they carry schedule 80. The schedule 40 stuff is too flimsy. You could also use the steel conduit, but finding connectors the right size may be tricky.

  • why don't these people ( all making VAWT's) use gear reduction?

all these guys seem real smart and make nice machines , but none seem to be gear reduced...

and also - couldn't this guy stack +-5 of his home built windings/ stators on top of each other?

  • You could stack generators on top of each other to increase the power output as long at the windmill is capturing enough energy to turn them. The load of the generators is constantly trying to slow down the windmill.
