During the excavations in British Honduras Mitchell Hedges himself never noted in his diary: "we just discovered today a magnificent crystal skull" Only many years later his daughter came with the story "that it was found on the ruins of a Maya temple". Instead, there is irrefutable evidence that the Mitchell Hedges bought the skull from Sydney Burney, a London art dealer in 1944. The skull is not flawless, A skilled 19th century craftsman with the tools at their disposal could do it.

TESTS on the skulls revealed they were polished in Germany around 1840
in the town of Idar-Oberstein renowned for crafting objects made from imported Brazilian quartz at this period in the late 19th century.

actually the skulls made from this town in germany are quite exquisite, but they do have a few tiny markings from their creation. the mitchel hedges skull has no markings at all. the skulls from this town in germany are good, but they aren't the ones being discussed here.

You have to consider that the Mitchell hedges skull could have been polished by an expert craftsmen from Idar-Oberstein. Not as a company work, but as a personal work. Which in that case would not bear the company markings.
The tests have revealed that the crystal is original from Brazil or Madagascar, and the cut and polishing is on all probability german 19th century.

actually the skulls i was refering to from idar-oberstein were not marked with "company" markings, but with tiny markings from the craftsmanship itself. many have been made by a craftsman, rather than a company. and the master craftsman is not able to reprduce the flawlessness of the hedges skull. plus, many cultures have legends of crystal skulls. and these legends were around before the 19th century.
