Not only does the new Steadicam Smoothee look like an imposing sci-fi weapon, but it also keeps your iPhone 3Gs nice 'n' steady while shooting video.

I only had a moment to play with the Smoothee, but it was a good moment. The hardware felt VERY smooth. And from the looks of it, I'm guessing it's aimed at higher-end customers. No price info yet. Stay tuned.

Check out the video to hear more about the Smoothee, and see it in action! ...you may even catch of glimpse of Elvis.

  • Saw it at the CES show over a week ago. Demonstrator there said they brought the price down to $179. That comes with one bracket, additional brackets for other types of mobile video phones extra.

  • @moophoto Thanks for the price update! I'll include that info in my next live presentation.

  • I just got an email that the price will be $199, with support for iPhone 4 and Flips coming in January. The reason for using an iPhone as a camera is that it is already in your pocket if you have one. Not many people, even professionals, always have their camera on hand. Zoom or Alesis will give you excellent sound for an OK picture and the price is a couple hundred bucks, so there are lots of options.

  • @WTFpsychedelicious Thanks for the info! I was beginning to think it was never going to happen.

  • I'm VERY curious to see how they price this. Hopefully, they'll make an announcement soon.

  • @cannedhobos pity they couldnt be arse replying to your question yet the "suits" want our money!

  • @cannedhobos Supposedly, Tiffen will be making versions for other popular small video cameras (i.e. The Flip), but I haven't heard anything about a universal mount. ...but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Go to Hand Held Hollywood (.com), and check out the iPhone Gizmo video. There's a bunch of cool devices in there, some of which have universal mounts!

  • does this have a universal camera attachment so I can put any camera i want on it?

  • Now, if you could attach the Owle to this, that would be really cool. But then Steadicam would probably not want to make that possible, so that they can sell their own accessories in the future.

  • @lkabird

no it'll suck for cameras like hv, and hf. If you want a stabilizer for those kind of cameras, get the MiniDV Stabilizer from balvanz enterprises. it produces better footage than this, and it's cheaper.

if you're serious enough about movies to get steady footage, then why would you use an iphone for recording stuff? anyone that's considering to buy this should get a real camera.
