Duo for Guitar and Drums (2011) by David Saperstein
for Electric Guitar and Drum Set
World Premiere performed by the Jarvis/Pritsker Duo
(Peter Jarvis & Gene Pritsker)

New Music Series, William Paterson University, November 7, 2011

Program notes:

"Duo for Guitar and Drums" was composed in June of 2011 for two fabulous, multi-talented composers and performers: Peter Jarvis and Gene Pritsker. It is a work employing the guitar and drum set in the context of the concert hall. The guitar is amplified and makes free use of some of the more common sound effects available to the electric guitarist. The percussion set-up called for in the score employs one of the basic arrangements of these instruments, known to drummers everywhere: pedal bass drum, mounted tom-tom, floor tom-tom, snare drum, crash cymbal and hi-hat. The inspiration for this piece came partly from the operatic stage, and partly from popular culture. - David Saperstein
