InteRDom Attends Library Inauguration at Dominican Studies Institute

Members of the InteRDom team attended the inauguration of the Dominican Studies Institutes library at the City College of New York on Wednesday, December 1o in New York City.
The library is the one in the United States that focuses solely on Dominican studies. It has a large and up-to-date collection of primary materials including books, audiotapes, magazines, official documents, manuscripts and Ph. D dissertations that relate to Dominican Studies. It also features an archives collection that documents Dominican-American immigrant experiences.
The featured speakers at the inauguration were Dr. Frank Moya Pons, Historian and Author of 30 books on Dominican and Caribbean history, and Dr. Marcio Veloz Maggiolo, Author of numerous books on Dominican archaeology and anthropology, as well as a former Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Mexico, Peru and Vatican City.
Dr. Moya and Dr. Veloz addressed a large crowd of important figures in the New York-Dominican community, including government officials, diplomats and community leaders. GFDD and FUNGLODE were represented at the event by Alicia Alonzo, Mandy Sciacchitano and Alexandra Tabar of the InteRDom Program, Aida Montero, Director of the Center for Documentation and Distribution of Knowledge and Maria Elizabeth Rodriguez, Director of the FUNGLODE School of Government.
The library was founded by the Dominican Studies Institute under the coordination of its director, Dr. Ramona Hernández, and is housed on the campus of the City College of New York.
InteRDom works in close partnership with both the Dominican Studies Institute and the City College of New York and is the official internship program of the Dominican Studies Institute.
The internship program is an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE). It offers students the opportunity to gain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their field of study.
InteRDom fosters and promotes the professional, academic, scientific, technological and cultural exchange of students and professionals in public, private and non-profit organizations of the Dominican Republic. It significantly contributes to the development of the nations employment sector and the advancement of academic research, while providing spaces for personal and professional growth, internationalization and multicultural understanding.
