If only we could see Ronnie play 14.1! His game is all about touch/positional play, intelligent shot selection, developing balls while still retaining position on his next ball and so on. He does all of this better than anyone I've ever seen, it's just a shame we're unlikely to ever see him play straight pool when he's so well suited to the game.

holy shit this is my new favorite type of Pool game. shoot any type of ball you want :D and this Steve is very good
-
with pockets that size, i could pot those balls with my eyes closed. Pool is childs play compared to snooker.

@cellomannathan Hes just american.

Thanks so much for putting these videos up!!! Such a rare opportunity to see the greatest snooker player of all time playing straight pool at his peak. I always wondered how he'd get on!
-
@MrPhilsd 14.1 is a million times easier its just potting balls, only real shot you have to worry about is the break ball. my highest break on a snooker table is 127 and easily top 100 in straight pool, its just too easy on 9 ball tables
-
@nugget147 sorry for the slow response. admittedly at my local snooker club there were several 9 ball tables. as a 14 year old the easier pockets were my first love and played 9 ball and 14.1 every week for about 2 years before i really played snooker. so in that sense you're right.

Look at the size of those fucking holes, 5:05 he shoots, the ball hits the koosh about a foot from the hole then still rolls in lol. American sports.

@cellomannathan Indeed - "Now it's time to contemplate his next shot" - astonishing
a 100-ball run can be made by snooker player that scores 30 / 40 breaks...
147 can be made by pro snooker player that can me a 1000 - ball and still be waiting for you to tell him "when to stop.. now ... now ?(1567, 1568 , 1569, .. 10643,10644 etc.)".

Not sure exactly what you mean, but 30-40 break snooker players will not run close to 100 balls in straight pool.

@nugget147 my best break is 48 (not much better and im happy to be in the 30's) and ive run a little over 100 twice in straight pool. you either underestimate snooker's difficulty or overestimate 14.1's difficulty

@MrPhilsd
If true, I would think you the exception rather than the rule. If your claim is that you're a snooker player first and only sampled straight pool to find it that much easier, then I don't believe you.
Unless they've thrown aside the call-shot element of the game, a sub-fifty break player is extremely unlikely to run 100 in 14.1 twice. Maybe if it's their main game. Otherwise, the cue ball control and consistency of execution just is not there to do it.

@MrPhilsd
Look at Steve Davis as an example. He could make fifty breaks with his eyes closed, drunk and using his penis for a cue. Yet he runs a pretty messy 58 here that rarely looks comfortable. This video isn't necessarily representative of Steve's best 14.1 play, but if 30-40 break players running hundreds were typical, think - what would straight pool look like when Steve Davis plays it?
Not like this.
