I think chopping down trees doesn't get any more PERMANENT,
I've see at least 10 new tree stumps in the last 24 months. THREE HUNDRED YEAR OLD TREES!!! GONE!

@allday64a

Pruning does not equal "chopping down". As far as your "10 new tree stumps" point is concerned - what has that got to do with the Olympics at Greenwich? No trees have been cut down in Greenwich Park for the games and none will be.

It's not about national pride - who mentioned that?? And for someone with your nimby, shortsighted views to call me "narrow minded and selfish" is priceless. The reality is that the locals of Greenwich will benefit from having the eyes of the world on them in a positive light for once; in terms of increased tourist revenue, inward investment and positive media. How do you make the leap to racism?? How does your mind work? And no, I despise the BNP almost as much as I despise myopic cynics.

Me, I mentioned national pride, and it's not a bad thing to wave your flag at the right moment. Greenwich has been in a positive light for a long time, it does not need this. I never made a leap to racisim, it appears that you have done this by all by yourself, work out how your own mind works before questioning others. And at least we agree on two things, I too despise the BNP and also (although more that) myopic cynincs. However unlike you I do favour pragmaticism in lieu of flights of fancy.

You made the leap to racism by labeling me nationalist in the context of the BNP. Neither of which were mentioned by me. To label the Olympic Games as a "flight of fancy" and to ignore the massive benefits it will bring us (and I am a resident of Greenwich) defines your narrow minded, one dimensional, myopic approach. Fortunately we have won the day, the games are coming and you and your ilk will have to cry in your beer.

Never called you a nationalist, just said you seemed to be so overcome by nationalist pride at this point (which can sometimes be good) that you, who are calling me narrow minded cannot open your mind to see that there are far more suitable locations for the equestrian events to be held than Greenwich, which is a PARK and quite simply not suited to the kind of activities that the olympics will entail. The sailing isn't being held in London, why does the riding need to be?

@edwardhofman

Olympic sailing requires open ocean water - you can't do it on flat lakes. As London isn't by the coast it's hardly suitable is it? Greenwich Park is 100% suitable for equestrian events and the purpose built course will be a triumph for the Games, London and Greenwich. Despite the fact that the negative, cynical BBC keeps digging up whingeing morons I haven't met a single Greenwich resident who is against it. Fortunately most of us can see the bigger picture.

Well watch the film, you'll meet quite a few. I personally think its a shame that you are so narrow minded that you can't tell the difference between "whingeing morons" and people who are realistic. Ah well, some people are just beyond help I suppose....

I watched the film and it's easy to find a few nutters with an axe to grind. I went to uni in Greenwich and I live in Greenwich and I don't need to watch a biased piece of propaganda to give me a sense of what the people of Greenwich feel on the subject. It's not me who is "narrow minded" I can see the big picture, it's people like you who are so narrow minded that you ignore the benefits of hosting the world's biggest sporting event and focus on tree pruning. You certainly are beyond help..
