On March 4th, 2010 students and teacher across the city walked out of high schools and colleges to protest the proposed tuition hikes, layoffs and the elimination of free student metrocards. These proposals will deny decent education to the working class people of the city, while all the resources are spent on bailing out banks and hedge funds. At Hunter College, the police disrupted the demonstration, charging in and making random arrests in an effort to intimidate dissent. But the mobilization would not stop, marching to the office of the governor and continuing on to the office of the MTA, joining with more walkouts from other schools as the day progressed.
Mobilizations will continue, and the rage will increase in the face of this oppressive economic situation and the refusal of government to help abate this crisis.
