The statistics that I stated are from the U.N., the Medical Research Council, and the Community of Information, Empowerment and Transparency. It's estimated that a female born in S. Africa has a greater chance of being raped than learning how to read. A belief common to S. Africa is that sex with a virgin will cure HIV. Child rape is rampant. S. Africa has some of the highest rates of HIV-positive citizens. 1 in 8 S. Africans are HIV-positive.

S. Africa has 2nd highest murder rates in the world and highest rates of rape. The police are corrupt and commit crimes. Tourists are often victims.
