You were such a young ACP back then! Bang!

The hang gliding company out of Concord by the name of Suspended Animation taught me how to soar at Funston in 1978. I've had some pretty wonderful moments above those cliffs since then.

Nice video man, can't wait to fly there myself. Just ordered a glider yesterday and I'll have my H2 anytime now. Thanks for posting

You realize you're still the #1 video for a "fort funston" search?

Couldn't help but notice - why is the beach deserted? I walk my two golden's up there every weekend and have never seen that beach empty. I have to say, I watch you guys with great envy. One other question, why are the parasails always south of the fort? Is there some kind of regulation that keeps the two types of gliders separated?
Really good for a first flight!

@psychastria Ha!! I thought so too at the time. Fast forward to the present and realize the local hang gliding school uses this video as an example of cross-controlling and what NOT to do.

That was a milestone in my ACP belt. Father's Day, 2 years after my dad died. He used to bring me Funston regularly. It was as if he always wanted to fly and I was able to do it for him. I wore his sweater that day and still wear it on most every flight. - emo ACP

The beach was deserted because I flew on a weekday (it happened to be my birthday).
The parasails are restricted from our airspace as a courtesy/safety issue.

Nice landing! Seems like a lot of cross-controlling, though. I see a bunch of body movement with little response from the glider. Remember, when your shoulders go to the right and your feet to the left, and vice-versa, your center of gravity doesn't move and the glider stays put. I know, always a critic, and since the camera doesn't show everything I may be mistaken. Anyway, nice job, welcome to Funston, and many safe flights.

Thanks! Yeah, I sucked on that first flight and now MSC is using it to teach how not to fly. :) Fortunately, I now have 30 hours flying at Funston and the cross controlling is almost entirely gone. (I video tape almost every flight in order to learn from my launches and landings...and cross-controlling).
I have also moved on to a Sport 2 155 which makes flying much sweeter!
See ya out there!
