They needed intel on the planet. There was the possibility of it being the bug homeworld. If it was, then they'd not only kill the transport bug but everything else too.

And it looks to me like this planet is pretty dead. Except for the bugs, but they aren't native.

@Straif5 I still would have nuked the transport bug from orbit. What are people thinking, sending people on jetskies after it?! :)

And in a planet with a flammable atmosphere, it can't have much life on it, because as soon as something makes a spark, the planet's atmosphere ignites, killing everything not underwater. Or maybe just above-ground/water life wouldn't exist :)

What the hell are their guns firing...can't be a standard energy round, or the pressurised hydrogen/oxygen mixture in the air would have caught fire and flash-cooked everything.
