Choreographed by the artistic genius George Balanchine, Shakespeare's comedy of magic and love's delusions, set to the music of Felix Mendelssohn, is a guaranteed favourite.

  • The music is from Mendelssohn, but it's not from the Midsummernight's dream, it's an extract from the ouverture of Athalia, op.74 (1845). My impression that Mendelssohn inspired later Russian romantics (Tchaïkowsky, Rachmaninov, Mussorgsky...) is confirmed here, in the orchestration, in the way he opposes sometimes monophonic powerful winds and lyrical, legato strings, supported by staccato basses playing fundamental notes. This music is very expressive, dynamical, mood-changing, very romantic.

  • The PNBS students have to wear leotards by her leotard company i just bought mine but theyre not the nicest leotards

  • glad to be at PNBS saw her in rehersal a few years back she is so nice she takes time to learn the names of the PNB students. She know mine and a few of my friend's names and she helps select us for company performances

  • @sbernstein591 Except that this is Balanchine's Midsummer Night's Dream. Ballet Theater does Ashton's. They're both great but quite different. If you get a chance see the Balanchine, too. It's really a treat as this excerpt shows. Sometimes in the Spring in NY you can see the two versions on alternate nights at Lincoln Center.

  • Recently saw a film of the American Ballet Theater company performing this so beautifully!

  • miss.Barker is my dance teacher for one and a half weeks

  • You can so see Suzanne Farrell's signature moves in here! All the more admirable that Patricia Barker has taken them and given them her own flair.

  • @kdub10009 patricia barker is not cold. its just that so many people can be up in her face. by the way...great job training :) (im not a stalker of patricia's but she was just at my house for a week and she is so incredible)

  • She choreographed a show I was in.

  • What is the music in this clip?
