An experienced gardener can outproduce a commercial farmer per sq. yard by as much as 5 times the yield. This is easily accomplished because the gardener has more time to spend on individual plants for watering & correcting growing problems, etc. than the farmer can spend for an entire field of crops. IMO gardeners produce healthier vegetables than farmers because they don't spray everything with toxic pesticides & herbicides. Just an added bonus to growing your own food.

@bluemoondiadochi I have a balcony and I garden too. Tomatoes, peppers, beans, leaf lettuce, and cooking herbs can be grown in planters. Those can be shifted around for sunlight too.

i'm glad they have the space to farm!
i don't even have a big balcony, it's packed with stuff and in shade!
for some purposes it really is a disadvantage to live in a building in center of city.... irony is i'd love to garden and save cash.
