@VASINGER I'm sure that the main instrument of any musician colours his/her appreciation of other instruments. I love Miles Davis (who incidentally played guitar as well) but my partner who plays French Horn can't stand him - which strikes me as bizarre since Miles could really blow. She is learning guitar now and loves Peter Green but hates Wes ? Good job we're all different. As a pianist I think perhaps the deliberate, clearly articulated quality of the riff on this take is what appeals

@zthetha i guess because this version has so much soul and personality. The guitar has personality in this one. Im not a guitar player, I play piano, so maybe guitar players will not agree with me. However, I am really surprised this wasnt the studio version release. The official release was very boring.

@VASINGER Absolutely! That was Sam Phillips thing - "imperfectly perfect". As a guitarist of long standing - far too long! - I am intrigued that you rate this version so highly. It is always interesting to hear others' opinions. Scotty always played Gibson archtops with Elvis to get that big, beefy sound but I know he had a Fender Tele at the start of his career so perhaps he reverted to it here...hmm?

@zthetha But I like this version 100x more than the official version. It sounds fresh. The guitar sounds cool to me. Sometimes a little bit of imperfection is perfection,

@VASINGER Elvis' original guitarist, Scotty Moore, was arguably the greatest and most original rock guitarist of all time. As I recall he played on the released version of this number and possibly even on this version. If that's the case all I can say is he was not having one of his best days for this take.

@zthetha I love the guitar. Its amazing.

The twanging of the lead guitar reminds me of " Winter Wonderland " - Elvis Christmas song . God bless you Elvis.

Love iT ! Great Rockabilly sound

Cont...this is what I call 50's Rockn'Roll, NOT Rock-A-Billy. In Sweden we always called this and, for example "Bop A Lena", "Summertime Blues" or "Be Bop A Lula" et al music for 50's Rockn'Roll AFAIR. Okay you people out here, whadda you call JLL "Great Balls of Fire"? It is from '57 and no damn rockabilly - even if you want to meddle and put him into some "rockabilly" niche. It is boogie woogie based rockn'roll!
-
Always been thinking of when El went from the SUN rockabilly - as I read somewhere -to the "More explosive, dynamic rockn'roll" as this song represent. It is kind of funny as I have a country fellow, hard die El fan, refering this recording as "rockabilly". She is out in the "woods". Heck about a lots of people saying this or that. This is El rocknroll im it's full bloom.
