Hemming blue jeans is best done by using a seam ripper to take apart the bottom hem, refolding the hem to the correct length and doing a double fold over for a sturdy hem. Hem a pair of blue jeans after pressing the seam using an iron with instructions from a sewing craftsman in this free video on sewing.

Great, easy instructions! I can see why you sew on the outside as any 'rough' finish that may happen is hidden on the inside where no one will see and there's a nice straight seam on the outside. Denim can be difficult enough to sew without trying to do a perfect hem that was originally done on an industrial machine with a domestic machine.

Dont know if anyone answered your question, it ahs been a yr. since you asked, but I go with the old vintage black singers, like a 15-91, or a 201, those are good ones, they are only straight stitch, but very very heavy duty machines.
